Unstitched, Semi-Stitched or Fully Stitched Lehenga: What Should You Choose?
When you shop for a lehenga online, you will see the same piece offered as unstitched, semi-stitched or fully stitched. It is one of the most common points of confusion, and it matters, because it decides how much work is left for you after it arrives. Here is what each one means in plain terms, and how to pick the right one for you.
What each term means
- Unstitched. You receive the fabric and components, and get the whole thing stitched by a tailor near you. Maximum flexibility, maximum effort.
- Semi-stitched. The lehenga is partly stitched, with margin left in the seams so a local tailor can adjust it to your exact fit. A middle path: some work is done, some is left to you.
- Fully stitched (ready to wear). The lehenga is finished and ready to wear. If it is made to your measurements, it should fit straight out of the box.
The pros and cons
Unstitched
- Good if: you have a trusted tailor and want full control over the cut.
- Watch out for: it is the most work, and the result depends entirely on your local tailor.
Semi-stitched
- Good if: you want a near-ready piece with room for a local tailor to fine-tune the fit.
- Watch out for: you still need a tailor, and the final finish depends on them.
Fully stitched, made to your measurements
- Good if: you want it to arrive ready to wear, with no running around.
- Watch out for: it must actually be made to your measurements, not a fixed standard size, or the fit is a gamble.
Which one suits you?
Ask yourself two questions:
- Do you have a reliable tailor nearby? If not, unstitched and semi-stitched become a real hassle, especially close to a wedding.
- Are you ordering from abroad? Finding a good ethnic-wear tailor overseas, at short notice, is hard and expensive. That tilts the choice strongly towards fully stitched, made to your measurements.
For most brides buying online, and almost every bride ordering from another country, made to your measurements is the safe, low-stress choice. It removes the guesswork and the last-minute tailor hunt.

Most of our lehengas start out semi-stitched, and that gives you a choice. We can finish your piece two ways:
- Made to your measurements, stitched to your own numbers so it arrives fitting you.
- Ready to wear, finished in a standard fit.
You simply tell us which you would like when you order. A few of our pieces are already finished as ready to wear. Those come as they are, in their set fit, and cannot be offered semi-stitched, because the stock is already stitched.
For brides ordering online, and especially from abroad, made to your measurements is usually the best of both worlds: the lehenga arrives finished and ready to wear, but built to your own numbers rather than a standard size. If a small adjustment is ever wanted, a quick local alteration handles it.
