The hem turns saffron yellow and goes dense: moti, cutdana and thread packed into a scalloped border that carries the whole weight of the piece.
It is built in layers — resham thread does the drawing and the colour, then moti and cutdana handwork sits over it for relief and light, with stone work through the detail. The restraint on the body is what makes the hem land; a skirt worked this hard all over would have nowhere to breathe.
