Deep maroon raw silk, and the lower half of the skirt tells a story. Worked in cutdana, bead and resham, a whole baraat processes around the hem — caparisoned elephants, horses drawing carriages, palanquins with figures seated inside them, palm trees standing between the scenes. Above it the body is quieter: fine vertical lines and scattered florals, so the eye is led downward to where the work is.

The narrative band is done in coloured resham against the silver — rust, sage, coral picked into the figures and foliage — which is what stops it flattening into a border and keeps each scene readable. This is the kind of embroidery that gives a bride something to point at, and something her photographs will keep finding.

The raw silk blouse is embroidered front, back and sleeves, and it comes with an organza dupatta scattered with floral butis and finished in a deep scalloped border, plus beaded tassels at the waist.
