Cherry red raw silk under heavy handwork — cutdana, bead, zari, stone and resham laid on so densely that the silk shows through only in the gaps between motifs. Long jhumar strands hang down the front panel, each ending in a worked drop, and the hem builds into arched jharokha panels with peacocks and deer standing inside them.
Cherry red is the brighter, cleaner red — truer than maroon and warmer than crimson — and it is the one that photographs closest to how it looks in the room. Against it the gold reads gold rather than bronze.
The raw silk blouse is worked front, back and sleeves. It comes with two net dupattas, both heavily bordered, so one can be draped over the head and the other across the shoulder without the look going flat.
